Performances

For Climate Change Theater Action, “50 professional playwrights, representing all inhabited continents as well as several cultures and Indigenous nations, are commissioned to write five-minute plays about an aspect of the climate crisis based on a prompt.”  For CCTA 21, playwrights were asked to write 5-minute plays inspired by “the Green New Deal and its global equivalents.”  We have selected the following plays to present.

When discusses the connections between humans and nature. It contemplates the ways in which humans have affected the earth and how we tend to forget just how much impact we have on other living organisms and their ecosystems.

Affirmations by Elena Eli Belyea

Affirmations by Elena Belyea is being staged as a collective reading by audience members. This staging allows audience members to make connections and grow a greater appreciation for the land we reside on.

The Penguin by Nicolas Billon

"The Penguin by Nicolas Billon tells the story of a penguin minding his own business in the Antarctic tundra when, suddenly, his pleasant waddling is interrupted by a rather irritating albatross. Earnest, honest, and sure to leave a lasting impression on any audience, The Penguin satirizes climate change denial through allegory and humor."

The Oysters explores the importance of oysters in our ecosystem, the dangers that they are facing due to the climate crisis and the significance of courage and bravery in the face of danger.
